Steven Moffat collects OBE
Steven Moffat, outgoing Doctor Who showrunner and newly minted winner of an OBE, raised an intriguing question in a recent interview. It’s a tiny comment Moffat mentioned that he would be writing 14 Doctor Who films.
A Doctor Who season has recently contained 12 episodes, followed a few months later by the Christmas episode. But in an interview with the Daily Record, Moffat said “Ahead of me this year I have 14 Doctor Who and 3 Sherlock films, so the last thing I’m doing is contemplating work beyond that. But the day’s coming when I’ll have to.”
Hmm, an extra special episode maybe? Just for us adoring fans who are already impatiently waiting an extra year for the next season? The mind reels with possibilities.
In the recent announcement BBC One controller Charlotte Moore said there was something big for 2017, “I have decided to schedule Steven’s big finale series in Spring 2017 to bring the nation together for what will be a huge event on the channel. 2016 is spoilt with national moments including the Euros and Olympics and I want to hold something big back for 2017 – I promise it will be worth the wait!”
So is Doctor Who just simply returning to a 13 episode series` as it did for the Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Doctor era’s or are we in for an extra treat.
