The new companion has been cast
Peter Capaldi, the current actor to play Doctor Who, is in Mexico promoting the long-running science fiction show and has been speaking about the new actor/actress to play his latest companion.
Last year Jenna Coleman left the role of time-traveling chum Clara leaving a gaping hole in the TARDIS for some new blood.
Brazilian site Omelete reveals in an exclusive interview with Peter Capaldi that the new companion, unlike Clara, will know ‘very little’ about The Doctor and his ‘cosmic nature’.
Peter also said on the new companion, ‘I’m excited because obviously I know who this person is.’ Previously, he has spoken of his desire for a ‘working class’ companion like Rose Tyler, played by Billie Piper.
The tenth series of Doctor Who will air in 2017 and will feature the new actress alongside Peter Capaldi, though this will be the last run of episodes from current showrunner Steven Moffat who hands over to Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall in 2018.
Tabloids in the UK have recently reported that Eastenders actress Rakhee Thakrar, who played Shabnam Masood, had been chosen, but we still don’t know for sure.
So, who could it be?
