Doctor Who was the most watched programme on BBC1 on 1st January 2021, and the third most watched programme on UK television for the day. ‘Revolution of the Daleks’ achieved an initial overnight figure of 4.69 million, which is an audience share of 21.1%.
The next most popular show on BBC1 was ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ with 3.7 million. ‘Emmerdale’ which was the main competition for The Doctor on ITV had an audience of 4.6 million.Overall, on ITV, Coronation Street achieved an audience of 5 million and the 6.35pm News (immediately before ‘Emmerdale’) had an audience of 5.5 million.
