Deep Breath gets later start time

Take a Deep Breath, it’s almost here… The first episode of Doctor Who series eight will arrive on BBC1 at 7:50pm on Saturday 23rd August, schedulers have confirmed.

Peter Capaldi’s 75-minute debut as the Doctor – expected to be darker in tone than episodes starring his predecessor Matt Smith – will finish at 9:10pm, much later than the show’s traditional teatime berth, but in the same slot (nine months later, to the day) as 50th anniversary special The Day of the Doctor.

The remaining 11 instalments in the series are then likely to return to a regular, earlier time.

The official synopsis for Deep Breath reads: “When the Doctor arrives in Victorian London, he finds a dinosaur rampant in the Thames and a spate of deadly spontaneous combustions. Who is the new Doctor and will Clara’s friendship survive as they embark on a terrifying mission into the heart of an alien conspiracy?”
