Christmas 2013 title revealed

The 2013 Christmas special, written by showrunner Steven Moffat, will be titled ‘The Time of the Doctor’.

The name echoes the titles of May finale ‘The Name of the Doctor’, online special ‘The Night of the Doctor’ and 50th anniversary episode ‘The Day of the Doctor’.

The BBC has confirmed the special’s traditional air-date of Christmas Day and revealed an ‘iconic image’ for the instalment, which shows Smith’s Doctor stalked by Silents and clutching a Cyberman’s detached head.

Time Of The Doctor

An official synopsis for ‘The Time of the Doctor’ has also been released, which reads:

“Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe’s deadliest species gather,drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars. And amongst them – the Doctor. “Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe.”‘The Time of the Doctor’ will be Matt Smith’s final performance as the Doctor after almost four years in the role. Peter Capaldi will succeed the 31-year-old actor at Christmas, before starring in his first full series in 2014.
